Exhibitor Update 4 - v2.0.13

Some useful links: Code, Sort-of kick-off, Update 1, Update 2, Update 3.
In the previous update, I talked about the CLI usability, appearance, and verbose mode improvements, and the re-architecture of how Exhibitor renders the user’s component library to support arbitrary React versions.
The last 2 weeks have brought a very large number of changes, improvements, and new features to the Exhibitor Site. Without further ado, I am very happy to share what Exhibitor version 2.0.13 looks like:
Here are some of the changes, in no particular order:
The bottom-panel’s nav bar is now icons-only with a sleek and minimal appearance.
The Unlocked Viewport mode is also represented by an icon-only button and has been augmented with the ability to type in exact viewport dimensions.
Dark Mode (finally)
And, of course, best ‘til last: Accessibility Testing! This deserves a bit more detail:
Accessibility Testing
Exhibitor now has built-in support for testing the accessibility of components using deque’s axe. This feature is still in it’s early days (it should be an optional dependency of Exhibitor, user should be able to modify axe’s strictness, etc.), but as we can see, the feature is already quite delightful-looking! It is a combination of Ladle.dev’s accessibility testing functionality and Jest’s appearance.
I find this a great example of one of the most foundational principles of software development: Don’t reinvent the wheel: Combine the best parts of existing tools, even if they are unrelated. Ladle.dev’s accessibility testing has great functionality, being simple and fast, but has poor test result appearance. Jest however has great test result appearance, being essentially the de-facto industry benchmark. Using one tool’s boon to supplant another tool’s crutch is one of my favourite tricks.
Thanks for reading. All the best.
